Read moreAs in most countries in the world education is considered in Nepal as the most effective basis for raising levels of economic and social development. Hence, development of education has been high priority in the country. A number of projects and programmes have been launched to accelerate educational development. As a result, the current situation is a vast improvement upon the situation that existed five decades ago. Despite this development, the present condition poses difficult challenges in the context of the present day world. The development trends during the past few decades show a rapid expansion of educational needs, and the actual growth has been slow despite intensive efforts. The challenge is particularly critical with regard to taking school education to the unreached section of the people who are poor and disadvantaged. The magnitude of problems of illiteracy, non-enrollment and school drop out is massive. Remote rural areas, females, ethnic minorities, dalits, and the poor are disadvantaged in terms of educational development.
The country is now running the Tenth National Development Plan. The focus of the plan is on the need for poverty alleviation. Education is looked upon as a force to address the issue of poverty through human development measures by enhancing the capacity of the people in terms of appropriate life skills, knowledge and experimental wisdom to acquire economic and social prosperity
There is urgent need of international support in developing and implementing programme based activities of the policy objectives. It is in line with this need that the government is collaborating with different international agencies, bilateral and multilateral, for the purpose of education development. Besides, the government is also undertaking several measures for reducing / eliminating risks in implementation of programmes.

It is increasingly recognized that sustainable development requires the integration of health and environment within the context of social and economic development. Our Social Development Division covers Health sector with recognition of the fact that environmental enhancement forms an integral part in the adequate response to the increasing demand for health services – especially for the most vulnerable groups and in those regions where environmental degradation is leading to the outbreak of preventable diseases, poverty and disasters. As the major infections and communicable diseases are associated with poor living conditions, crowding and other environmental factors like poor sanitation and lack of access to safe water and adequate food supply.
