Nepal is committed in the effective exploitation of its renewable natural resource for the economic well being of the country and the region as a whole. Nepal’s hydro potential 42,000 MW is estimated to be economically feasible for development. To date the country has been able to exploit only 555 MW that is only 1.32% of the economically feasible potential. The prospect of being involved in the potential development of its most sustainable renewable natural resource METCON’s Hydropower and Infrastructure Division is committed to explore and pursue the opportunities. METCON has gained considerable experience in hydropower development. By taking the lead role in the completion of the feasibility studies of several hydropower projects ranging from 20MW to 69MW. METCON has been also involved in the private sector hydropower development, and in this context, we have prepared the guidelines for undertaking the feasibility studies of PROR (poundage run of river) and ROR (run of river) of medium scale hydropower projects with installed capacities between 10 to 100. METCON provides following services

  • Feasibility Study
  • Design and Planning
  • Transmission Line
  • Distribution System
  • Topographic Seismic and
  • Geographical Survey
  • Economic and Financial Analysis
  • Project Management

METCON had since realized after involvement in the projects on water supply strategy development, formation of water development board, water distribution & sewerage, and urban/secondary towns development that cope with the scarceness of the resource can be achieved by i. Involving the prospect ion of new resources ii. Reducing of losses and waste. Iii. Designing and implementation of appropriate solutions, and v. the careful operation of service facilities and management of corresponding resources.

In rural areas projects focus on appropriate decentralized supply and disposal system incorporating pumps, public stand post systems and latrines constructed, maintained and operated on a community basis through various kinks of self-help organizations. In urban areas an emphasis is placed on the computer supported inventory of water reticulation and sewer systems, on repair, maintenance and the reduction of unaccounted for water as well as the extension and construction of water and sewage treatment plants employing a variety of technologies

For an efficient utilization of water resources METCON has planned to use/introduce computer-aided operation and maintenance systems User organizations are involved already at an early stage in drawing up water allocation plans and introducing water tariffs. In the case of developing new water resources METCON conducts hydro geological field investigations and theoretical quantity and quality analyses as a precondition for responsible usage of water as a valuable commodity.

By providing classical civil engineering solutions on the one hand and offering assistance and success-oriented participation in the management of systems on the other, METCON renders real Public Private Partnership. Assignments transcend the immediate context of individual projects, requiring the integration of all fields of activity into a comprehensive project approach. This has been successfully applied on a regional, municipal and rural level. Following services are offered.

  • Water Resources Management
  • Water Supply
  • Sanitation and Drainage
  • Irrigation
  • Systems Management

METCON has provided consulting services to development of highways, rural roads, and social infrastructures. Following services are provided..

  • Feasibility Study
  • Engineering design on AutoCAD
  • Economic and Financial analysis
  • Cross border facilities assessment for trade facilitation
